Craig’s practises almost exclusively in crime. He appears for both the prosecution and the defence and has experience from the Magistrates’ Court to the Court of Appeal.
His recent cases span the whole spectrum of criminal offending and include murder, rape and other sexual offences, firearms, kidnap, arson, serious violence, drugs and dishonesty. He is particularly interested in cases involving expert evidence.
Craig is well used to working as part of a team of counsel and has appeared as both led and leading junior. In addition to dealing with individual Defendants he has been involved in many large cases with multiple Defendants including historical sexual abuse across several generations of the same family and conspiracies to commit burglaries, thefts and frauds. He has dealt with sensitive issues of public interest immunity including covert human intelligence sources and offenders with links to terrorism.
Craig’s extensive experience of financial crime means he is particularly experienced in dealing with cases in involving confiscation proceedings. He recently represented the Department for Work and Pensions on a case in the Court of Appeal involving post-confiscation order reconsideration of overpaid benefits: R v Jarivs [2008] EWCA Crim 2296.
He is always conscious of the need to put those involved in criminal proceedings at ease. He has prosecuted and defended trials involving young witnesses and Defendants and witnesses and Defendants with mental health problems. He can be relied upon to deal with witnesses and clients alike in a sensitive, approachable and matter-of-fact way.
