Craig’s background in general crime followed by a specialisation in financial offences has now led to a large proportion of his practice being in the sphere of regulatory crime. He has extensive specialist experience in the field of regulatory law work for both the prosecution and defence.
Craig was appointed to Panel B of the Attorney-General’s list of prosecuting advocates in 2005 and also regularly appears for the defence. He has been involved in cases brought by many specialist prosecuting authorities including the Department for Trade and Industry, the Department for Work and Pensions, HM Revenue and Customs, the Food Standards Agency, the Department of Health, the Health and Safety Executive, the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Authority, the Environment Agency and the Child Support Agency.
Craig’s recent cases have included large scale frauds against the benefits system and the Department of Health, environmental health and environmental protection cases and conducting the first ever successful prosecution for failing to pay the minimum wage. He recently represented the Department for Work and Pensions on a case in the Court of Appeal involving post-confiscation order reconsideration of overpaid benefits: R v Jarivs [2008] EWCA Crim 2296.
