Catherine’s civil practice consists primarily of personal injury and civil fraud proceedings and she undertakes both written and Court work. She also acts generally in relation to other more diverse areas of civil law such as injunctions, travel claims and professional negligence. In particular she has been able to apply an innovative and unusual approach on behalf of Government agencies and Local Authorities in that she has been successful in obtaining civil injunctions against persistent offenders in addition to the usual remedies being available under health and safety legislation.
Catherine has a special interest in inquests having been instructed by Railtrack plc to attend the Selby train crash inquest on their behalf and has conducted other lengthy and high profile inquests for companies, individuals and bereaved relatives. She understands both the potential legal consequences of these proceedings and the sensitivity which is required when conducting the hearing.
