Practice in all types of crime, but over 50% of practice is sex offending
Also significant fraud work, including mortgage and pension frauds and money laundering. Prosecuted a number of multi-handed frauds. Worked in accountancy before the Bar.
Prosecuted a number of murder cases without a Leader.
Significant experience with Court of Appeal work, including cases where not involved at the Crown Court stage and where asked to review the safety of the conviction. Involvement in a large number of cases where the minimum term has been improperly calculated following life imprisonment / IPP. Often advises pro bono when funding is not available.
Advice on evidence is always provided within 3 days of receipt of a brief (and opening note if prosecuting) and all correspondence is answered without delay.
Whilst recognising the importance of advising Defendants on evidence and credit for a plea, I have sought to build up a reputation for not putting pressure on Defendants to plead guilty. I recognise the benefit to the Defendant of feeling that he has put up a proper fight at trial.
