Eric began his career at the Bar with a mixed common law circuit practice focussing on crime, personal injury and regulatory work. In the latter period of his junior practice he tended to work primarily at the criminal Bar where he was regularly instructed in all aspects of heavyweight crime, including being frequently instructed as a Leading Junior circuit wide.
Since taking Silk, Eric has specialised in crime and regulatory work practising on and off the North Eastern Circuit and in the Court of Appeal. His practice now covers all aspects of criminal law requiring leading counsel and various aspects of regulatory work in particular any matter of an equestrian nature including disciplinary hearings involving racehorse trainers and jockeys under the auspices of the British Horseracing Authority (formerly the Jockey Club).
Eric continues to sit as a Recorder in criminal and civil jurisdictions and his legal knowledge is further sustained by attendance at and participation in frequent Judicial Studies Board seminars.
