Toby regularly acts on behalf of Defendant Insurer's in cases where fraud is alleged.

As part of Sovereign Chambers dedicated fraud team, Toby is aware of a range of innovative tactics to assist his insurer clients in tackling this increasingly difficult and sophisticated area and as such he has a good understanding of the requirements of the Insurance Industry and keeps abreast of developing law.

Toby has a range of experience in assessing and advising on the strength of individual cases encompassing low velocity impact issues, bogus passenger, credit hire and exaggeration and is happy to provide pre-action advice and conferences in Chambers.


Toby regularly advises, drafts pleadings and attends trials allocated to the multi-track which involve complex fraud rings and he has successfully acted in cases where exemplary damages have been claimed in the tort of deceit, in addition to obtaining orders for wasted costs against Claimant firms who have acted in a questionable manner.


Toby also regularly provides lectures and seminars to Defendant firms and Insurer clients. Recent topics have included LVI, Bogus Passenger, CPR 18, CPR 35 and Defences.
