After being Called to the Bar in 2002, Janine spent five years in-house in local government, during which time she was Admitted and practised as a solicitor. Whilst there, she had conduct of many matters with a particular emphasis upon Regulatory and Disciplinary work, appearing before a range of tribunals of both a criminal and civil nature.

Janine moved to the Independent Bar in 2007, completing pupillage in June 2008, and has subsequently continued to develop her practice. She often represents prosecuting authorities in the Magistrates’ Court, and increasingly so in the Crown Court. Moreover, she regularly receives instructions to defend both individuals and limited companies against whom such proceedings are brought. Particular areas of experience include:

Education: Truancy.

Environmental Law: Waste Management and transfer, fly-tipping and posting, noise nuisance and pollution and clean air.

Environmental Health & Trading Standards: Food safety and hygiene, food labelling, trademarks and descriptions actions.

Health & Safety: In respect of employers’ employees’ and occupiers’ duties.

Licensing: Houses in Multiple Occupation and Hackney, and Private Hire carriages.

Planning Enforcement: Listed and dangerous buildings, unauthorised advertising on, and use of land, breaches tree preservation orders, planning permission and building regulations.

Welfare Benefits: Fraud.

Janine is also developing experience in associated confiscation proceedings.

In addition to the above, she continues to expand her policy-based and inquisitorial, rather than adversarial, Regulatory & Disciplinary practice. To date her experience includes:

Education: Duties and responsibilities of teachers, schools, and LEA’s with particular reference to admissions and exclusions, special educational needs, disability discrimination, health and safety and welfare.

Public Law: Public Sector powers, allegations of misconduct and Ombudsman reports.
