David Dixon has successfully prosecuted a fraudster (Jeremy Gillis) who helped a former Leeds restaurant owner cheat wine buffs out of more than £380,000.
Gillis made an inquiry phone call in a false name to a national newspaper group before adverts were placed in March 2010 for Surpluswines.co.uk promoting the sale of clearance wines and champagne.
The fraudsters obtained £382,791 over the course of a few days. Gillis received a suspended sentence for his role in the matter; his co-accused will be sentenced next month.
