Successful conviction of Leeds Rapist

Head of Chambers David Gordon recently prosecuted to a successful conclusion on behalf of Leeds CPS Rape and Serious Sexual Offences unit (RASSO) the case of a man who raped, stabbed and robbed a prostitute in the Chapeltown area of Leeds.  This was a case aggravated by the possibility that the victim may now be carrying the rapist’s child.  At Leeds Crown Court on Friday 9th September 2011 Lester Shand was sentenced by HH Judge Burn to a total of 9 years imprisonment.  A Sexual Offences Prevention Order was made banning Shand for life from entering the red light areas of Leeds.  He will also be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.  The case was headline news in the local press:
