The Family Team at Sovereign Chambers includes in excess of 20 practitioners offering specialist services in all aspects of family work. We offer a pool of highly skilled and motivated advocates who work as a cohesive team to offer breadth and depth of experience in all levels of court. We offer high standards of expertise and competence and strive to maintain continuity of representation. We are alert to the sensitive nature of the work and provide high standards of client care. Members deal with cases involving children in public law proceedings and represent the diverse parties: local authorities, parents, extended family and children, whether through their Guardians or independently. We deal with adoption and special guardianship applications. We offer unrivalled expertise in dealing with cases involving neglect, emotional or sexual abuse, serious injury and complex medical evidence.

We deal with the spectrum of private law cases including residence applications, difficult contact cases, injunctions and committals, child abduction, and relocation outside the jurisdiction.

We offer practitioners experienced in all types of financial and property disputes, including ancillary relief after divorce or dissolution of civil partnership, claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, applications under section 14 of the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996 and financial provision under schedule 1 of the Children Act 1989.

A number of team members offer cross-disciplinary experience from related fields of work such as equity and trusts, bankruptcy, crime and immigration. Members accept instructions in respect of professional negligence in the field of family law.

Our members provide training programmes tailored to the specific needs of professional organisations, including professionally accredited courses where appropriate.
